Scope of Work
The disadvantaged neighborhood around the Glendale Transportation Center is vehicle-oriented and lacks adequate active transportation facilities for users to complete the first and last portion of their trip to and from a destination on their own. This project has outlined the barriers and has planned improvements to the first and last mile of a user’s trip. The Glendale Train Station and Transportation Center project is composed of 2 phases. The City received funds from the Metro 2015 Call for Projects grant program and Measure M Local Return funds for Phase 1 of the project as well as funds from the 2017 Active Transportation Program fund and Transportation Development Act funds for Phase 2 of the project.
The scope of work generally includes the following:
- Surface grinding and placement of Asphalt Rubber Hot Mix (ARHM) over Asphalt Concrete Pavement (Leveling Course);
- Asphalt Concrete Pavement removal and placement of Portland Cement Concrete street section;
- Application of crack sealing material;
- Application of emulsion aggregate slurry (Slurry Seal Type II);
- Selective removal and repair of broken and damaged sidewalk, curb, curb and gutter, cross gutters, alley aprons;
- Selective removal, repair and reconstruction of concrete street surface on Railroad Street;
- Modification and reconstruction of existing ramps to meet the current ADA standards.
- Adjustment of existing manholes and water meters to finished grade;
- Installation of Bio-Retentions at Intersection of El Bonito/Gardena and Mira Loma/Gardena;
- Installation of Wayfinding Signs;
- Installation of Street and Pedestrian Lighting;
- Installation of Protected Bike-Lanes on Los Feliz Road;
- Installation of new bus shelters at Glendale Transit Center and intersection of Los Feliz Road and San Fernando Road;
- Installation of Two-way Opticom Detectors at intersections of San Fernando Road/ Los Feliz Road, San Fernando Road/Central Avenue, San Fernando Road/Cerritos Avenue and Los Feliz Road/Gardena Avenue;
- Removal and replacement of existing traffic striping and pavement markings; and
- Planting Trees
The project locations are as follows:
- Los Feliz Road between City Limits and San Fernando Road;
- Gardena Avenue between Los Feliz Road and Central Avenue;
- Gardena Avenue between Central Avenue and Cul-de-Sac;
- Railroad Street;
- Central Avenue between San Fernando Road and Railroad Street;
- El Bonito Avenue between San Fernando Road and Gardena Avenue;
- Cerritos Avenue between San Fernando Road and Gardena Avenue;
- Mira Loma Avenue between San Fernando Road and Gardena Avenue; and
- San Fernando Road between Los Feliz Road and Brand Boulevard.
Construction Updates
There are no construction updates at this time.
Construction Schedule
Construction start date: February 8, 2021
Construction completion date: November 2021.
Bus Shelter and Bike Lane Installations
- Installation of 2 Mission style bus shelters on San Fernando at intersection of Los Feliz Road at north and south bound directions. During this work, the bus stops will temporarily be relocated.
- Installation of green bike lanes on Los Feliz Road between San Fernando Road and City's boundary with City of Los Angeles and installation of Sharrow markings on Los Feliz Road between San Fernando Road and Glendale Avenue.
- We are anticipating periodic and localized lane closure during green lanes installation on Los Feliz.
- Above mentioned construction and installation will begin on Monday, November 15th until Friday, November 19th.
