Flushing pharmaceuticals down the toilet is not a good practice. These products are pollutants which contaminate water sources. Samples of stream water have detected human drugs, veterinary drugs, detergents, personal care products, fragrances, insecticides and other chemicals. In addition, small traces of prescription drugs have even been detected in fish.
Glendale Environmental Management staff recommends that old medicines be treated as household hazardous waste and taken to the Emergency Management Center.
Instead of dumping, please bring all unused medicine to the Glendale Environmental Management Center at 780 Flower Street on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 9:00AM-1:00PM.
