A professional standard of tree maintenance designed to provide a uniform and sound level of care and to help ensure public safety.

Base performance standards provided by American National Standards Institute (ANSI), specifically ANSI A300 pruning standards and companion publications known as Best Management Practices developed by the International Society of Arboriculture aid in the interpretation and implementation of ANSI A300 standards.

These guidelines are intended as guides for practicing arborists, tree workers, their supervisors, and the people who employ their services.
