The Forestry operations of the Public Works – Maintenance Services Division is responsible for public right-of-way trees and the regulation of indigenous trees under conservation protection. Responsibility for the care and upkeep of Glendale's public tree population falls under the purview of the Department of Public Works, specifically the Forestry section whose tree trimmers are all certified arborists. This encompasses trees within our parks, public facilities, and all city-owned open space.
The Indigenous Tree Ordinance protects indigenous trees by requiring an indigenous tree permit for work that is performed on a protected tree or through the review of site plans when construction is proposed near protected trees. Permits may also be required for work done alongside City-owned trees on parkways or along streets as well as on City easement or land.
If you are interested in pruning, removing, or working near a protected tree, please complete an Indigenous Tree Permit application. To apply for a street tree or indigenous tree permit, please follow the instructions at this link: www.glendalepermits.org.
Call Public Works-Maintenance Services at 818-548-3950 for any questions regarding public right-of-way trees and the regulation of indigenous trees under conservation protection.
