The Community Academy is a 10 week program held at the Glendale Police Department where participants are instructed in the many facets of law enforcement. There will be presentations by members of the law enforcement and judicial system; from civilian employees, police officers, detectives, and judges. Participants will also engage in hands on learning exercises.

During the 10 week program there will be presentations from:

  • Glendale Police Department - Chief Carl Povilaitis
  • Robbery / Homicide
  • A recent shooting debrief
  • Gangs / Parolee Enforcement Detail
  • K-9’s
  • Narcotics
  • Burglary
  • Financial Crimes
  • Traffic
  • The firearms simulator training
  • A day at the GPD shooting range
  • Air Support Unit
  • Professional Standards Bureau

This is an excellent learning opportunity for those who are interested in how the Glendale Police Department operates and how its members continue to keep the city of Glendale rated as one of the safest cities in California and in the nation. You will also learn how the police department, in partnership with the city, has committed to the citizens and businesses of Glendale to provide a safe and thriving community to live, work and visit.
