Gas-Powered Leaf Blower Ban

Gas-powered leaf blowers create large amounts of noise and air pollution. To address these concerns and improve community health, Glendale’s City Council approved an ordinance prohibiting the use of gas-powered leaf blowers. Single Use Plastic Foodware Ban

The City adopted Ordinance 5973 (GMC 8.46) that requires food and beverage providers located within the City of Glendale – including restaurants, bars, and convenience stores – to have customers ask for accessory foodware items, such as spoons, forks, knives, napkins, straws, and other items, before receiving them. Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP Policy)

The City of Glendale's recently adopted Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Policy (EPP) prioritizes sustainability in all parts of the City via guidelines for purchasing a range of environmentally conscious products and materials, including paper, carpet, vehicle engine oil, tires, compost, solvents, insulation, and more. Through the EPP, the City must actively look to source products that meet established environmental standards, such as recycled content and EPA-recognized certifications unless the environmental materials are substantially more expensive. The policy also aligns with state regulations like SB 1383, which requires the procurement of compost and mulch made from organic waste. When working with third-party contractors, the City enforces compliance with these guidelines through various specifications in bids, contracts, and public works projects.
