This Summer, we invite you to Plant a Seed, Read. Celebrate farms, gardens, and feeding their bodies and minds through reading by doing a reading and learning activities throughout the Summer Reading Challenge.
When you sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge at any Glendale library location, you’ll receive a FREE custom library tote bag!
This year's design celebrates the Arts & Culture Commission's recent tile artwork installed in Fremont Park by artist Cara Lynch. The artworks are featured on 22 columns throughout the park and showcase 1,164 individually designed tiles.
In addition, we are spotlighting the two Glendale Library, Arts & Culture branches closest to Fremont Park, Library Connection @ Adams Square and Casa Verdugo Library.
Our Summer Tote library artwork was drawn by library staff members Guillermo Garcia from Casa Verdugo Library and Winona Noronha from Library Connection @ Adams Square.
FUN FACTS ABOUT CASA VERDUGO LIBRARY 1151 N Brand Blvd, Glendale, CA 91202
- The building first opened as a deposit station in 1926 (100 years ago!)
- Casa Verdugo Library will celebrate their 75th birthday in August 2026 (look out for more info about the birthday party!)
- Building was designed by Architect Adrian Wilson who also designed the LA County Courthouse.
- In 1951, overdue fines were 5 cents a day for adult materials and 3 cents a day for children's materials.
- There are 4600 square feet of space.
FUN FACTS ABOUT LIBRARY CONNECTION @ ADAMS SQUARE 1100 E Chevy Chase Dr, Glendale, CA 91205
- The library opened July 26, 2008 to the public, it is the only branch leased by Library, Arts & Culture.
- It cost $1.1 million to overhaul building and cover library materials and equipment.
- The art deco style building was built as a corner drugstore in the 1920s, it originally housed Adams Square Pharmacy and featured pseudo Egyptian adornments; the second story of the two-story building then housed an elegant ballroom. Later the upper floor became a medical center for a dentist.
- It is GLAC's smallest branch at 2,200 square feet compared to Central's 92,000 square feet and serves the Adams Hill and South Glendale neighborhoods.
