Project Details

The Brand Landfill – Ground Mount Solar Project leverages the decommissioned Brand Landfill, which was an aggregate disposal site. The landfill sits above Brand Park and provides an exceptional 3-acre flat location nestled in the Verdugo Mountains and out of sight from the city below.  The estimated capacity of this project is 1,811 kW (1.81 MW). This solar array is estimated to produce approximately 3 million kWh/year of clean solar energy. That is equivalent to powering 411 homes annually.

The scope of work for the contract with Motive Energy includes the solar array design and environmental review. Procurement and construction of the proposed solar array will be awarded to Motive Energy once the environmental review is completed and all potential mitigation measures are approved and implemented as required by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

Project Activity

September 2024: The Biology Field Investigation was conducted, and the report generated from that investigation will determine next steps within the environmental review and potential mitigation measures.

October 2024: Final Biological Report received from consultant and under legal review for CEQA.

December 2024: Electric distribution line extension design & engineering in progress to determine potential mitigation measures for CEQA compliance.

February 2025: Completed plans for electric distribution line extension and ground mount solar design and submitted to Community Development Department and Legal for environmental impact review.

March 2025: Environmental impact review of proposed electric distribution line extension and proposed ground mount solar array.
