This policy outlines a 3” Temporary Construction Water Meter program and to control unauthorized usage of the GWP Water owned fire hydrants, to protect the distribution system’s integrity, protect the water quality, preserve fire protection, and provide temporary water needs to the City of Glendale, California’s Customers.  It is essential to ensure our water system has a reliable flow for fire suppression while still protecting against water theft, misuse, and abuse, and actual and or potential contamination.  Fire hydrants are vulnerable points in a water system due to the ease in which they can be assessed and the quantity which can be used.  Under the current contract, a temporary water meter can only be used for a period of up to one (1) year from the date of application.  Recently, there have been a few meters that have been turned in past the 1-year deadline prompting this policy change.
