About
The Glendale Fire Department’s Household Hazardous Waste Program was one of the first permanent indoor HHW facilities in Southern California. Since launching in 1991, the program has safely collected over 3,000 tons of hazardous waste from residents.
Hours of Operation
🕘 Open every Wednesday and the 2nd Saturday of each month, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Closed on holidays and during extreme weather.
- CLOSED ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2025.
- Open to Glendale and La Cañada residents (bring proof of residency).

How to Bring in Your Household Hazardous Waste
- 🧴 Bring up to 15 gallons of liquids or 125 lbs. of solids (container size counts!)
- 📦 Keep chemicals in original labeled containers when possible
- ♻️ Containers will NOT be returned (except for oil — new ones provided)
- 🚗 Place items in your trunk or back seat for safe collection
- 🙋♂️ Stay in your car — our team will unload materials for you
Materials NOT Accepted
Explosives (Including Fireworks)
- Explosives of any kind, including fireworks, are not accepted under any circumstances.
Ammunition
- Ammunition, bullets, or casings should be taken to designated law enforcement collection points.
Radioactive Materials
- Items containing radioactive substances, including smoke detectors with Americium-241, are not accepted.

- Controlled Substances (Schedule II–V Medications)
- Chemotherapy Waste
- E-waste (Accepted at the Glendale Recycling Center)

- Cleaners, aerosols, glass cleaner

- Muriatic acid, pool chlorine tablets, shock treatments

- Paints, thinners, shellacs, polish, wood preservatives

- Hypodermic needles/syringes in a puncture-proof container
