Project Scope:

Project scope includes replacement of the existing playgrounds at Adams Square Mini Park and Mayors Bicentennial Park. 

Budget:

The budget is $500,000 in Measure A funds for design and development of the playground replacement at Adams Square Mini Park and $475,000 in Measure A funds for design and development of the playground replacement at Mayors Bicentennial Park.

Status Update:

From May 20 through June 23, 2024, the public was invited to complete an online community survey for each site. Thank you to those who took our first survey.   Based on the first survey results, we worked with two vendors on developing 4 different playground design options for each site. 

The public was then invited to complete Round 2 community surveys from September 19 through October 25, 2024, to gauge the community's preference of design for each playground.

We additionally offered the opportunity to meet out Park Planner at the respective sites to discuss their design options: Adams Square Mini Park, Wednesday, October 9, 2024, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM; and Mayors Bicentennial Park, Thursday, October 10, 2024, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM.

Based on community feedback, staff presented the preferred designs for each site to the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Commission at their regular meeting on Monday, December 16, 2024. At the meeting, the commission approved a motion recommending City Council approval of Kompan' "Custom Truck" for the Adams Square Mini Park Playground Replacement Project and Kompan's "Custom Owl" for the Mayors Bicentennial Park Playground Replacement Project. You can view the report and video of the meeting HERE.

Staff continues to work with Kompan to finalize plans for both playgrounds and has released an RFP for accessibility services, which will provide the accessibility plan required for the project.  Staff anticipates taking a motion to award the playground contract in Spring/Summer 2025.

Final designs will be submitted to the City Council for approval in early 2025.
