About the Transit Route Analysis Process

Downtown Glendale has seen major growth in urban density with over 6 million square feet of office space and over 3,500 new housing units.  Student populations have shifted between the three Glendale Community College campuses and what used to be peak AM and PM commute times for employment are now dispersed throughout the day.  The TRA provides a comprehensive vision of how Beeline can adapt to these changes and reorient service to better meet the travel needs of current and future Glendale residents and visitors.

This analysis takes into consideration how Beeline, Metro and LADOT routes work together as a mobility network in Glendale, and also considers future conditions including the Metro Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), North and South Glendale Community Plans, and the proposed Glendale Streetcar among others.  The TRA complements the work being done currently with LA Metro’s NextGen Analysis in which Glendale is already a key participant.

On July 22, 2019, at the Transportation and Parking Commission meeting, the project team made a presentation on the findings and results from the analysis work as well as the public outreach component.  Based on the findings and initial public input, the team will present draft recommendations for near-term and mid-term service changes.  The recommended service changes intend to optimize operating effectiveness and efficiency by creating new service, modifying route alignments, running time, frequency, span of service and fine-tuning service levels to ensure the best allocation of City resources.

The project will proceed with soliciting widespread public input on the recommended service changes through August 26th.  Based on public comment, the service proposals may be prioritized and modified in whole, or in part.  Once public outreach is complete, staff will return to the Transportation and Parking Commission on September 23rd for a proposed implementation plan that prioritizes the service changes.
