How to Submit a Planning Application

Most projects that will involve large additions or new construction will need to go through the planning application process before applying for a building permit. Please note that there are many factors that must be taken into consideration which may influence the necessary processes and will be determined by your case planner based on individual cases.

SECTION A: PRE-APPLICATION

STEP 1: Applicant Research

The applicant should complete some preliminary research prior to contacting the Planning Division.

Building Permit History
- Recent Permits and Applications (after 2005)
- Historical Building Permit Records Request Form (prior to 2005)
Find Property Zoning Information: Zoning is a classification assigned to a particular set of land uses. Once you find the zone of your property, you can find what uses are allowed and the development standards (i.e., height, setbacks, parking) for that zone in the City's Zoning Ordinance.
