 Glendale Youth Employment Partnership (GYEP)

 

Program Description

In the GYEP program, supervised teams of youth as young as 14 perform hillside brush clearance on private properties for a fee. Youth can also be hired to perform other general labor tasks. Youth employees work after school, on weekends and during the summer. They learn the importance of customer service and of meeting customer expectations. There are three positions under the GYEP program: Youth Worker, Youth Employment Apprentice and Youth Employment Team Supervisor.

Qualifications

Participants interested in a Youth Worker position with the GYEP Program must:

  • Between the ages of 14 and 21
  • Obtain a work permit

Participants interested in a Youth Employment Apprentice position with the GYEP Program must:

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 21
  • Have a valid California driver's license
  • Be attending high school or college
  • Have one year experience in a leadership role

Participants interested in a Youth Employment Team Supervisor position with the GYEP Program must:

  • Be over the age of 18
  • Have a valid California driver's license
  • Have a high school diploma or G.E.D
  • Have one year experience supervising youth and 30 college units.

No. Participants in our GYEP Program work outdoors.

What are the hourly wages for the GYEP positions?
Youth Worker hourly salary starts at $11.00 per hour. Youth Employment Apprentice salary ranges from $12.19 to $15.48 per hour. Youth Employment Team Supervisor salary ranges for $14.67 to $18.63 per hour.

Do I need a work permit and where do I get one?
Yes, if you are under the age of 18 you do need a work permit. Please see your supervisor to obtain the necessary paperwork to request a work permit from your school. Once you complete the paperwork given to you by your GYA supervisor, you will be asked to take the paperwork to your school counselor or to Glendale Unified School District where they will issue you the actual work permit. If your grade point average is below 2.0, the school may not issue a work permit.
