Elderly Nutrition Program - COVID-19 Schedule

The meal distribution plan for senior currently enrolled in the Elderly Nutrition Program (ENP) is as follows:

(Effective July 3, 2020, per Los Angeles County Workforce Development, Aging and Community Services (WDACS) directive the City will reduce the number of meals served to clients through the Congregate Meal Program from (7) meals per week to five (5) meals per week regardless of the delivery or pick-up method.  This directive excludes Home Delivered Meals clients, who are shut in/homebound, thus they will continue to receive 7 meals per week.)

  • 5 days frozen meals to seniors who have the means to warm up and store the food in refrigerator/freezer.
  • Delivery by City Staff or pick up option by the senior or friend/family designee of senior on assigned days between 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
  • A Brown Bag meal will be distributed to those who don’t have the means to warm up frozen meals and new clients*at two locations:
    • Adult Recreation Center- 201 East Colorado St, Glendale, CA 91205 – Monday-Friday ONLY
      • Brown Bag Lunch Pick-up time is from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.on the East side of the building at Louise St. entrance.
    • Sparr Heights Community Center- 1613 Glencoe Way, Glendale, CA 91208
      • Monday-Friday ONLY
      • Brown Bag Lunch Pick-up time is from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Paloma Ave. entrance.

*New Clients must fill out Universal Intake Form before receiving meals:

  • New Client’s must be 60 years of age an older;
  • Availability is based on supply

Cooling Fan Assistance Program

The Cooling Fan Assistance Program is administered by the City of Glendale’s Community Services & Parks (CSP) department to help low-income seniors in Glendale keep cool when the temperatures rise.  The program provides one free fan to elderly residents 60 years of age or older who live in the City of Glendale and meet other eligibility requirements.

The program enables seniors to remain comfortable while observing the “Safer At Home” Order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please visit for more information and to access the application.

Senior Programs and Services offered by the Community Services & Parks Department Prior to March 16, 2020

Older, active adults are invited to enjoy meaningful personal and group activities offered at the City of Glendale senior centers.  Services and programs include an integrated array of advocacy, health, nutrition, social services, sports and leisure activities.  Eligibility may vary with some services but most programs are open to everyone without regard to age, race, color, nationality, origin, sex, religion, and mental or physical handicap.  

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life, promote independence, self-sufficiency and self-fulfillment among the older citizens of Glendale.  Programs, services, and activities are held at the following facilities:

Life-Long Learning Opportunities for Seniors

The Community Services & Parks provides a variety of opportunities for seniors to participate in life-long learning classes for personal growth and development. Participation is open to individuals ages 50 and older. Special recreation events and informational programs are scheduled throughout the year. In addition, a number of classes are offered in collaboration with the Glendale Community College. All Glendale Community College seminars are FREE to seniors.

Case Management Program - PROGRAM BROCHURE

Integrated case management is for Glendale residents 60 years of age and older. It is designed to meet the special needs of frail individuals who may be experiencing difficulty in maintaining an independent living arrangement. The Case Management Program can provide assistance with the following services:

  • Transportation
  • Social Security
  • In-Home Services
  • Legal Services
  • Medicare/Medical
  • Assist with Alternative Housing Options

Health Services

FREE health screenings are available for older persons at the Adult Recreation Center and Sparr Heights Community Center. For information, call (818) 548-3775 OR (818) 548-2187.

Legal Assistance

Free legal assistance is offered by the Armenian Bar Association on a walk-in basis and is available to seniors at the Adult Recreation Center. For more information regarding specific times, please call (818) 548-3775.

Medicare & Medi-Cal Counseling

HICAP Medicare Counseling is available to assist seniors with questions regarding Medicare, supplemental insurance, HMOs and more. For more information, call (818) 548-3775.

Transportation Services & Bus Pass Sales

Transportation services include Dial-a-Ride by reservation, and MTA bus passes sold at the Adult Recreation Center and Sparr Heights Community Center.
