Beware of Scam Emails Requesting Payment for City of Glendale Permits
GLENDALE, CA – The City of Glendale is alerting residents, businesses, and contractors about phishing emails containing fraudulent invoices targeting individuals who have submitted development-related permit applications to the City of Glendale. These emails are not from the City.
Some of the fraudulent messages include wire transfer instructions, while others prompt individuals to click a link to “electronically sign documents,” mimicking legitimate City communications. Recipients should not send payments or click on links in any unsolicited or unexpected email requesting money, banking information, or urgent action.
Do not pay these invoices. They are fraudulent.
The only authorized channels for paying a City of Glendale permit include:
- The official permit portal at GlendaleCA.gov/Permits
- Mailing a check to the City of Glendale, following the instructions provided in your official permit documents.
If you receive a suspicious email containing an invoice or a link to electronically sign documents:
- Do not click on any links.
- Do not open any attachments.
- Do not send any wire transfers or other payments based on email.
How to verify an invoice:
- Ensure the sender email address includes the “@GlendaleCA.gov” domain
- Log in to your permit portal and review your active invoices
- Call (818) 548-3200 to confirm the status of your permit and any outstanding balances.
These emails appear to be part of a broader phishing scam in which criminals use email addresses obtained from a variety of sources (publicly available contact lists, or other third-party databases) and then send messages that mimic official government communications. Similar phishing scams have also been reported in jurisdictions across the region.
The City of Glendale is actively monitoring this situation and encourages anyone who receives suspicious communications related to permits, fees, or payments to verify directly with the City before taking any action.
For general questions about permits and payments, please visit GlendalePermits.org or call (818) 548-3200. If you believe you have responded to a fraudulent email or would like to report suspicious activities, call the Glendale Police Department at (818) 548-4840.
