City of Glendale Opens Public Comment Period for

Draft Mobility Element, Extends Public Comment Period for Draft Land Use Element

Glendale, CA –The City of Glendale has announced the start date for the public review and comment period on the Draft Mobility Element, and an extension of the review period for the Draft Land Use Element. At this time, no end date has been set for comment period for either draft element. The City will provide public notice when 30 days remain before the closure of this review period.

The public review and comment period for the Draft Environmental Justice Element concluded on August 29, following a 61-day review window. Community members are encouraged to review the draft elements and submit comments at GlendalePlan.com.

The Mobility Element is one of three elements being updated or created as part of a multi-year update to Glendale’s General Plan—the City’s comprehensive policy document that guides decisions about land use, development, mobility, public services, and quality of life. Along with the updated Land Use Element and the new Environmental Justice Element, the Mobility Element ensures the General Plan reflects current conditions and community needs. Formerly known as the Circulation Element, the Mobility Element provides the framework for decisions on how people move throughout Glendale.

Although the last comprehensive update of the Mobility Element was in 1998, the City has continued to expand mobility options through ongoing improvements across its transportation network. More importantly, California law requires all cities to maintain a current General Plan, including an updated Mobility Element. The draft Mobility Element includes the scope and content that are required under state law and reflects local needs and priorities.

The draft Mobility Element reaffirms Glendale’s commitment to safer and accessible transportation options. This element will serve as a citywide framework to meet the diverse transportation needs of all residents, workers, and visitors—regardless of age, ability, or mode of travel.

Community feedback gathered during the public comment period will guide staff in shaping final recommendations to the Glendale City Council.
