Six Stolen Vehicles Recovered; Nine Arrested
On May 20. 2022 just before 6:00 p.m., officers assigned to Glendale PD’s Downtown Policing Unit (DPU) contacted a male and female who were observed sleeping in a vehicle parked on the 200 block of S. Central Ave. Officers spoke to the female in the driver’s seat, identified as 31-year-old Camille Stewart of Mission Hills, and male in the passenger’s seat, 34-year-old Christopher Hurley of Mission Hills. In plain sight, the officers observed a torch lighter, baggies, and what appeared to be a makeshift methamphetamine pipe. A search of the vehicle produced a baggie of methamphetamine. During the investigation, officers discovered that Hurley was on probation for vehicle theft and narcotics. Utilizing departmental resources, officers also learned that the vehicle Stewart and Hurley were in had been reported stolen a month prior, and the license plate that was attached to the vehicle belonged to a different vehicle. Stewart was arrested and booked for vehicle theft and possessing controlled substances. Hurley was arrested and booked for vehicle theft.
On May 31, 2022, at approximately 11:45 p.m., a Glendale PD patrol officer located a stolen motorcycle in a motel parking lot on the 6700 block of San Fernando Rd. Utilizing departmental resources, the officer obtained suspect information, and just after 2:00 a.m., the officer located 36-year-old Leanna Weir of Valley Village. Weir matched the suspect description, and through reviewing surveillance footage, officers were able to determine that she had parked the motorcycle in the parking lot. Assisting units arrived, and Weir was arrested and booked for vehicle theft.
On June 5, 2022, just after midnight, an officer assigned to Glendale PD’s patrol bureau heard continuous honking while driving near the intersection of Broadway and Eagledale Ave. The officer located the vehicle, and observed a male, later identified as 26-year-old Julian Leon of Tampa, Florida, hunched over in the driver’s seat. The officer contacted Leon and observed several wires hanging from the steering console. A consensual search of the vehicle produced several multitools on the driver’s side floorboard, along with jumper cables and registration paperwork. During the investigation, officers learned that Leon was not the registered owner of the vehicle and that Leon was listed as wanted out of another state. Leon was subsequently arrested and booked for vehicle theft.
On June 13, 2022, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a Glendale PD patrol officer conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Colorado St. and Columbus Ave. The officer contacted the driver, 22-year-old Victor Quiroz of Van Nuys, and passenger, 21-year-old Jasmine Perez of Reseda. Assisting units arrived, and during the investigation, officers discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen. A subsequent search of the vehicle produced 187 pills labeled “Alprazolam” and a nitrous oxide tank. Quiroz was arrested and booked for vehicle theft, possessing a controlled substance for sale, possessing a nitrous oxide tank, and an outstanding warrant. Perez was arrested and booked for possessing a controlled substance for sale.
On June 15, 2022, just before 4:00 p.m., Glendale PD patrol officers located a stolen vehicle travelling near the intersection of Colorado St. and Louise St., and subsequently conducted a felony traffic stop. Assisting units arrived, and officers contacted the driver, 29-year-old Nieves Olivar of Van Nuys, and passenger, 25-year-old Arthur Delaroca of Van Nuys who were ultimately both arrested and booked for vehicle theft.
On June 21, 2022, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Glendale PD patrol officers located a stolen vehicle parked in a parking lot of the 1400 block of E. Colorado. The officers observed a male, who appeared to be sleeping, inside of the vehicle. The officers contacted the male, 32-year-old Omar Marrufo of Panorama City. The officers observed the steering column was severely damaged, and located 25 additional keys on the driver’ side floorboard of the vehicle. Marrufo was subsequently arrested for vehicle theft and receiving known stolen property.
