Social Distancing Violation Leads to Gun Arrest
On March 26, 2020, Glendale PD Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of E Garfield Avenue regarding a group of males causing a disturbance in a residential parking lot. This call was especially sensitive in light of the social distancing regulations set in place by the Los Angeles County Public Health Department.
Upon arrival, officers observed a group of six males huddled around a vehicle, some of whom were holding beer bottles and wearing gloves.
The group separated as officers approached, and one of the individuals was recognized as a known gang member.
All of the males were detained and warned regarding their social distancing behaviors.
As a result of further investigation, a black case containing a .22 caliber pistol with a full magazine was found.
Ultimately, it was discovered that the case containing the pistol and magazine belonged to 23-year-old Jonathan Esquivel of Glendale. Esquivel was subsequently arrested for carrying a loaded firearm in public.
