GLENDALE, CA - Glendale's Building & Safety Division is celebrating Building Safety Month during the month of May by offering students a $300 scholarship. The City's Building and Safety Division and International Code Council have partnered to offer student scholarships to raise awareness about the importance of building codes and how they impact the lives of people every day. There will be a total of two secondary or higher education scholarships to rising or graduating high school seniors and current first, second or third year students of a two or four year institution. Interested applicants are invited to submit a 1000-word or less essay that illustrates how building codes in a community contributes to the confidence within the community.  Awardees will be announced during a community event. Free to the public, the event will feature opportunities for attendees to connect with Building & Safety Division and Permit Services staff to discuss building project ideas, to learn about recent changes in legislation that makes it easier to construct accessory dwelling units and more. Representatives from a variety of local partners will also be on hand to provide information and resources about their services and products. Vendors include Tesla, the International Code Council, Rain Barrels International, Foothill Windows & Doors, Dewalt, Optimum Seismic and many others.  Free lunch and giveaways will be provided.
