Glendale, CA: - On March 6, 2019, Glendale officers responded to a residential burglary in progress in the 1500 block of Heather Ridge Road in the City of Glendale.
Investigation revealed a real estate agent arrived at the residence to show the property to a potential client and saw a black Toyota Camry parked in the driveway with a male sitting in the passenger seat. The witness thought the vehicle may have been another agent to show the home. As the witness walked up to the door, he noticed the key was still in the lock box. The witness opened the door and saw two males running behind the house wearing gloves and masks. The males ran to the front of the home and entered the Camry and fled the area.
The witness provided the license plate of the vehicle and descriptions of the males to the communications division which was relayed to the responding officers. An officer searching the 5 freeway located the suspect vehicle. A pursuit was initiated and the suspect vehicle entered the southbound 2 freeway and exited Glendale Blvd. As the driver slowed down, a male in the rear passenger seat exited and fled on foot. The passenger, a 16 year old male, was located a short distance away and taken into custody without incident with the assistance of LAPD.
The driver continued to flee from the officer and eventually stopped. Both occupants, identified as 27 year old Jerry Cunningham of Hawthorne and 19 year old Demetres Ford of Los Angeles, were taken into custody and booked for burglary.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of surgical masks, three backpacks containing nylon masks, a pry bar and other tools commonly used to commit burglaries.
A search of the home on Heather Ridge revealed a broken rear window was smashed in order to gain entry and the interior of the home was ransacked. The homeowners were located and responded to the scene.
The 16 year old male was transported to Central Juvenile Hall and detained. His photo will not be released due to his age.
The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
