Glendale, CA. — On Saturday, October 27, 2018, the Glendale Police Department hosted an Anonymous Gun Buy Back event at the Civic Center Parking Garage located at 650 E. Wilson Avenue in the City of Glendale.

A total of 101 guns were collected during the five hour event. The weapons included vintage handguns, rifles, shotguns and assault style weapons.

The Anonymous Gun Buy Back event provided the community an opportunity for the safe and anonymous disposal of unwanted firearms. Anonymous Gun Buy Back events also reduce the number of guns in homes that can be stolen and used by criminals.

“Following one of the mass shootings earlier this year, I instructed staff and the Glendale Police Department to conduct a gun buy back, whereby individuals were encouraged to turn in firearms without questions asked," stated Mayor Zareh Sinanyan.  "The event ended up taking in 101 firearms - ranging from a Kalashnikov and SKS assault rifles, to shotguns and handguns.  That is 101 firearms that can no longer fall into the wrong hands."

Participants received a $100.00 Target gift card per handgun, shotgun or rifle, and/or a $200.00 Target gift card for assault style weapons as classified in the State of California.

All the firearms collected during the event will be prepared for destruction in compliance with state law requirements.
