City Announces $60,000 Prize Package for Glendale Tech Week

Glendale, CA – The City of Glendale invites startups to apply for Pitchfest, Glendale Tech Week’s popular Shark Tank-style event. Pre-selected start-ups will have the opportunity to present their ideas and products in front of a live audience and a panel of judges made up of entrepreneurs, angel investors, and Venture Capital (VC) funders. Participants will compete for a $60,000 prize package. The deadline to apply is August 13.

The $60,000 prize package is comprised of a suite of essential professional services for young startups, including:

  • Access to leadership expertise, strategic guidance, and assistance with valuation provided by partners at Black Diamond Ventures valued at $5,000
  • $5,000 in legal services from Bruno Group, Inc.
  • Six months of access to co-working and meeting space from Collab & Play
  • $2,500 in accounting and business plan services provided by Sadd, Velazquez, Higashi Shamma
  • $6,500 in marketing services including video production, graphic design & printing provided by the City of Glendale
  • Investment structuring services and negotiations from Oceanview Capital Partners valued at $5,000
  • Logo development services by Kilter Media
  • Various options for bookkeeping and accounting, tax planning, and business plan services
  • A guest spot in two local podcasts, including Glendale Tech on Tap and Millennial Fam
  • VR-enhanced marketing services by Rodin + Knoxlabs
  • A congratulatory ad in a business and technology publication paid for by the City of Glendale

Competing companies will have between 7 to 10 minutes to present their pitch followed by five minutes for Q&A. Companies selected to participate will also have an opportunity to attend an advanced coaching session with the judges to perfect their pitch deck and address any pre-presentation questions. Companies will be divided into two categories depending on how much they have fundraised, and may include any science or technology product and startups with zero-to-nominal revenues. Founders must present at Pitchfest. Startups need not be located in Glendale to participate.

Pitchfest is one of many events lined up for the City of Glendale’s Third Annual Glendale Tech Week. This event supports the Glendale Tech Strategy, which was adopted by the Glendale City Council earlier this year as a way to develop the ecosystem of technology and innovation in Glendale. “With the support of my Council colleagues, we initiated the Glendale Tech Strategy as a way to diversify our economy. Pitchfest allows us to highlight the innovation that is happening here and around Glendale, and connects entrepreneurs to local services that are available. My colleagues and I are looking forward to the Third Annual Glendale Tech Week,” said Mayor Zareh Sinanyan.
