Plastic Carryout Bag Ban Ordinance – Phase 2

In a continued effort to improve the quality of life and promote a greener environment in the community, the City of Glendale adopted an ordinance banning the issuance of plastic carryout bags in January of 2013. A ten cent charge on recyclable paper carryout bags, with some exceptions, was first adopted in larger grocery stores. The program was well received and on January 1, 2014 the second phase of City's Plastic Carryout Bag Ban went into effect. All smaller grocers, food markets, liquor stores, convenience stores, drug stores, pharmacies, and vendors at City sponsored events, City facilities or City property no longer provide plastic carryout bags to customers.

The City of Glendale encourages customers to use reusable carryout bags. Bags are available for purchase at the Public Works Administration Office, 633 East Broadway, Room 209, or the Ginger Brember Integrated Waste Management Facility, 548 West Chevy Chase. The reusable bags are 50 cents each.
