Mission Statement

The Public Work’s Department’s mission is to provide the highest quality public works services to the public and other City departments, balanced through our efforts to maintain a cost effective operation and to provide these services in a responsible and efficient manner. This mission is accomplished through the prudent use of resources, technology, innovations, teamwork, and coordination with other service providers in the City.

About Public Works

The Public Works Department's service encompasses 350 miles of streets; 360 miles of sewers; 47,000 parkway trees; 3,686 storm catch basins within City of Glendale boundaries; 52 debris basins; 30 miles of alleys; 50 multi space parking meters and 1,870 single space parking meters; 40,000 signs; and 234 traffic signals and 35 flashing beacons. Maintenance of the City's 600 miles of curb including street sweeping, curb marking, and curb & gutter repair.

Of the 92 buildings and sites owned by the City of Glendale, the Public Works Department provides 1.7 million square feet of general building maintenance and 474,308 square feet of custodial maintenance. The Public Works Department also provides maintenance for all City Park facility infrastructure, including 1500 lighting features, 56 sports courts or sports field structures, 33 playground facilities, 31 parking lots and structures, 13 pools, wading pools and water features, and 30 park restrooms, as well as a plethora of picnic area structures, patios, stages and various other amenities.
