MANDATORY COMMERCIAL RECYCLING

As a partner in Statewide efforts to achieve "Zero Waste" goals, the City of Glendale is dedicated to minimizing the environmental impact of refuse and recyclables collection. In response to new State legislation for Mandatory Commercial Recycling, the Glendale Recycling Center is expected to be able to process mixed waste for recycling by 2015. Through source-separation in its residential and commercial operations, bulky item and e-waste collection, backyard composting and other programs, the City continues to approach the AB 341 goal of 75% reduction in landfill waste disposal by the year 2020.

In addition to free Residential Bulky Item Collection, the City of Glendale offers refuse and recycling services using two types of containers for both residences and businesses. For information on these services, please click on the type of container you have and on whether the container is at a business or at a residence, with residences divided between a 1-4 unit dwellings and 5+ unit dwellings.

Additional refuse and recycling services and information are listed at the bottom of this page.

Scavenging/Taking of Recyclables/Privacy Concerns

It is illegal in Glendale for an outside party to take recyclables from your City-issued recycling or refuse container.

To assure privacy, shred confidential e-mail and certain financial information before placing such documents (in a closed paper or clear plastic bag) in the recycling container.

Scavenging should be reported to the Glendale Police Department by calling 818-548-4840. Section 8.44.180 of the Glendale Municipal Code prohibits tampering with any refuse or recycling container.
