Glendale Man Arrested and Charged with Series of Robberies

On October 3, 2017, felony charges were filed against a 21-year-old Glendale man in connection with three robberies that occurred in the City of Glendale and the City of Burbank.
On September 17, 2017 at 3:25 a.m., an armed robbery captured on video surveillance occurred at the 7-11 convenient store located at 843 West Glenoaks Blvd in the City of Glendale. The suspect entered the store and selected an item from the freezer and brought it to the counter. When the clerk approached the register, the suspect flashed a black handgun in his coat pocket and demanded money. Out of fear, the clerk removed cash from the register and handed it to the suspect. The suspect fled the location in an unknown direction.
On September 22, 2017, Glendale detectives began working with Burbank Police detectives involving two similar armed robberies that occurred in the City of Burbank. All three robberies involved a lone African/American male, 22-30 years old, 5’7-5’8, thin build and wearing the same or similar clothing.
On September 18, 2017, a male suspect was captured on camera committing a robbery at the Walgreens located at 1028 South San Fernando Road, Burbank. The suspect flashed a black handgun in his coat pocket, demanded money and fled the scene with the cash.
On September 22, 2017, a male suspect was captured on camera committing a robbery at the Chevron station located at 800 N. Hollywood Way, Burbank. Again, the suspect flashed a black handgun in his coat pocket, demanded money and fled the scene with the cash.
Burbank Police detectives investigating the case obtained video footage of the suspect vehicle as it fled from the two robberies. The vehicle appeared to be a 1998-2001 white Chevrolet Blazer with traffic collision damage to the passenger side hood.
A crime bulletin was distributed to law enforcement agencies in attempt to identify the suspect and vehicle involved in the three robberies.
On October 1, 2017 at 4:53 a.m., a Glendale officer on patrol in the area of Brand Blvd., stopped a Chevrolet Blazer matching the description of the suspect vehicle depicted in the crime bulletin. The driver, identified as 21 year old Marlo Xavier Butler, was contacted and detained. A consent search of the vehicle revealed a black pellet gun, matching the description of the gun used in the robberies.
Based on the investigation, Butler was placed under arrest and booked for robbery.
Glendale detectives obtained a search warrant and items of evidence related to the robberies were recovered at Butler’s home in the 1300 block of Virginia Avenue in the City of Glendale.
On October 3, 2017, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed three counts of robbery against Butler. Butler was released after posting $175,000.00 bail.
