Glendale Tech On Tap: The Art of Dj’ing with the Beat Junkie Institute of Sound

GLENDALE, CA – Peer into the world of dj'ing from an internationally known DJ crew, the Beat Junkies during their Tech On Tap talk on Wednesday, August 16th at the Moose Den, 156 S. Brand Blvd, from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. Founded in 1992, they are credited as pioneers and prolific taste makers and have influenced the international DJ community. The Beat Junkies will discuss their journey as a DJ crew, their signature "Beat Junkie Style", and the opening of their very own DJ school - the Beak Junkie Institute of Sound. Located in Glendale, California, the Beat Junkie Institute of Sound offers fundamental and specialized DJ courses, workshops, and private instruction.

There will be a five minute turntable demonstration and a ten minute beginner mini-lesson for two lucky volunteers. The event is free but space is limited, RSVP here.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Mr Choc has been DJ'ing since the age of 15. Self-taught and now with 31 years of experience, the goal has always been to be the most well rounded DJ he could be. With 24 years of commercial radio, DJ'ing for artists on tour, countless club sets around the world, not to mention also being a Professional DJ instructor for the last 11 years, the goal has been accomplished. Now the "Dean" at the Beat Junkie Institute Of Sound, he looks forward to teaching and sharing his experience and knowledge with eager students.

DJ Melo-D has 20 + years of professional DJ'ing to his name, including 12 years of prime-time mix show at LA’s top radio stations, multiple World Championship DJ competition titles, and DJ performances at the nation's most renowned nightclubs and music festivals. He has a wealth of experience when it comes to the art of DJ'ing. He is regarded as one of the most well-rounded DJs in the industry, and is proficient at the full scope of the DJ spectrum.

D-Styles is one of the names most associated with innovative turntable scratching. Thanks to the popularity of the Internet and the explosion of scratch videos, D-Styles is influencing turntablists and scratch artists around the world. His approach differs from the highly technical, yet repetitive scratching that currently dominates the scene, in that it emphasizes musical composition and style.

EVENT DETAILS:  Light happy hour snacks will be provided. No host bar. Brief presentation, long post reception. Thirty minute talk starts at 5:30 p.m. Casual environment with good company and great conversation!

VENUE: The Moose Den is a chill sports-centric subterranean haunt with burgers and more, plus shuffleboard, darts and other games. Address is 156 S. Brand Blvd.

PARKING: 90 minute free parking available at the Marketplace Parking Structure at 120 South Maryland Avenue.
