Glendale City Hall Celebrates 75th Anniversary

Glendale, CA – Join the City of Glendale on Saturday, June 3rd, as it celebrates its City Hall’s 75th anniversary in conjunction with the Glendale Police Department’s annual Open House. The event will feature photos of Glendale’s past, a birthday card for resident’s to sign, cake, and live music from the 1940’s themed singing group, the Beverly Belles. The Glendale Police Department Open House will showcase the police helicopter, SWAT and Forensic teams, and the abilities of the K-9 unit. The Open House is just steps away from the City Hall celebration.

The City of Glendale is a haven for arts, technology, commerce, and leisure, but it took hard work to get where we are today. When Glendale was incorporated in 1906, the city’s founders, lacking any official government buildings, would meet in a private home to discuss the future of the city.

It wasn’t until 1912 that our founders commissioned and built a small City Hall at the corner of Broadway and Howard Street. But as the City grew, so did its need for public service. By 1940, a City Hall that could better meet the needs of residents was planned, and in 1942, the doors were opened; this City Hall stands proudly today at the corner of Broadway and Isabel Street.

The celebration for Glendale City Hall’s 75th anniversary will take place between 1p.m. and 3p.m. in the City Hall lobby at 613 East Broadway Street, and the Isabel Street parking lot. The Police Open House will be hosted from 11a.m. to 4p.m. at the Glendale Police Headquarters, also on Isabel Street. Be advised that Isabel Street will be closed to vehicular traffic to accommodate event activities, and that free parking will be provided at the Civic Center parking garage on Wilson Ave.
