GLENDALE, CA – On Tuesday, January 24, 2017, the Glendale City Council received the much anticipated Glendale Tech Strategy. The 10-month strategy development, executed by Estolano LeSar Perez Advisors in partnership with Mount Wilson Ventures, explored the tech landscape in Glendale, determined the City’s competitive advantages, and identified recommendations for the further development of the tech ecosystem in Glendale.

The Tech Strategy identified Glendale’s tech landscape was strong with 1,029 high tech firms employing 41,168 people in the city. The potential for even greater growth was identified in the high educational attainment of the City’s residents. Other noted advantages of operating a tech business in Glendale included the exceptional quality of life, central location, the active downtown, and the fact that Glendale has no Business Tax.

The Strategy also explored areas of improvement which the City has already begun tackling. Integral to a thriving tech ecosystem is the cultivation of a greater network among local companies and talent. Since last May, the City has hosted Glendale Tech on Tap, a casual monthly meet up of startups, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and those interested in the industry. The City also hosted their first Tech Week in September 2016 and is in the planning stages for Glendale Tech Week 2017.

The most engaging of the recommendations is a 90-day cohort-based Accelerator Program which the City is beginning to explore. “We are eager to be on the ground floor of a program that will propel tech companies to that next level of success,” stated Glendale Councilmember Zareh Sinanyan. “Being aware of the resources available in this community was essential to better envisioning the future growth of tech in Glendale.”
