What's Happening

  • The Central Library renovation is coming into its home stretch, completing major construction elements in time for our Spring 2017 Grand Re-opening.  We “closed the curtain” at the end of the day on September 1, 2016 so that our construction crews can move into high speed until we are ready for our big reveal. We are exploring options for alternative spaces in the downtown area, however the Central Library building will be closed to the public. Read More>

Journey to the East with Russ Furnas

img588img590Photojournalist Russ Furnas will discuss and show slides of his 2014 trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. Enjoy Vietnamese style coconut tea while Furnas describes Ho Chi Minh City's (Saigon) explosively colorful China Town, opium refineries turned French restaurants and antique alley's lively inexpensive open air garden restaurants. Flower markets and temples transition to the lush Mae Kong Delta, where he cruised the backwaters aboard a bamboo sampan. The journey will conclude with Cambodia’s gilded fairy tale palaces, an exotic culture and ancient jungle-choked World Heritage stone temples

His publishing credits include Thai Airways, Malaysia Airways, Yachting World, Garuda Indonesia, Cruising World and Tall Ships International. His photojournalistic career began as weather and news broadcaster stationed in the Gulf of Tonkin during the US Incursion to Vietnam. His travel experiences include hitchhiking the Indonesian Archipelago from Bali to Papua,New Guinea, aboard traditional trading schooners, crewing  the Fiji to Vanuatu Tusker Ale Yacht race, and rail journey's across north Vietnam and southern China.
